Table Tennis: Backhand Loop of underspin ball - 1500 fps
Full stroke from just before the ball bounces to follow through. Key take aways: Incoming and outgoing trajectory is almost identical. Racket trajectory more vertical than against top spin (TS) ball (to be anticipated - ~ 51˚ for US vs ~ 28˚ for TS). But racket surface angle at contact is very similar against US and TS balls. (reference video ua-cam.com/video/iUnyJ8HM32M/v-deo.html against TS is not directly comparable: different players, different ball speeds. Nevertheless, some interesting factors for comparison)

Contact on an incoming top spin ball - speed, rotation and angles at 1500 fps
Переглядів 3,1 тис.3 місяці тому
The physics of table tennis are difficult to understand at regular speed. Contact is *very* short - our tests show significantly less that 1/1000 sec -, but during that time a lot of energy is transferred - first from the ball into the rubber and then from the whole racket back into the ball. Angles, speeds and rotation determine the resulting ball trajectory, and the player must perform the st...
MASSIVE spin on table tennis serve
Переглядів 1,9 тис.6 місяців тому
We measured the under spin created on this serve at 2802 rpm! The calculation was simple: We counted the time it took to complete one full rotation (at the bottom right of the frame). A little over .02 sec ~ 2800 rpm
Wang Liqin at practice - 2007 WTTC Zagreb
Переглядів 3,8 тис.8 місяців тому
Three-time World Champion Wang Liqin was a dominant force in the top ranks of table tennis for the first decade of this century. His quiet demeanor belied the devastating power of his forehand, and his extraordinary flexibility made it difficult to stay away from that massive weapon. Here he is at practice, days before he won his third World title in 2007.

What a match! A show of class!!!
Kim Taek Soo’s technique is amazing, hope to see younger Korean or Japanese players using this classic yet powerful technique. Penhold forever!

He has really long fingers!

Is that Allen Bensten from Denmark receiving the serves?
Yes, it is.
Much better

Banana flip most important technique in dacades, changed the game
Good old day🥲
Nice video, continue in this way but can you also continue the training videos of player and serves in slow speed
Nice . But I expected 1500 fps to be a lot more slow motion that this video
fps is not the same as playback speed.
ok thanks.. So it may have been shot at at very high speed but the playback video was made at a much slower FPS ? @@ericvandruten
@@rcarioca the fps means how many pictures were recorded per second. The standard used to be 24 fps, with a playback speed of the same: 24fps. If you want to play that at half speed, then the frame rate will be reduced to 24 / 2 = 12 fps. Below about 20fps though, the brain recognizes the video as separate images rather than as fluent motion. And that's the whole reason for shooting at ridiculous frame rate: you can slow down a video to 1/100 speed, (this clip) and stil retain fluent motion.
so if a video is shot at 1500 fps, then played back at 24 fps, the visual result is slow motion ? @@ericvandruten
@@rcarioca yes. the recorded video contains 1500 images for one second. If you play it at half speed, then it would take 2 seconds to show these 1500 images: so 1500 / 2 = 750 images in one second. play it at 1/10th the speed, then it would take 10 seconds to show all 1500 images; 150 images in one second. Play it at 1/62,5 the speed, and it will take 62,5 seconds to play all 1500 images, resulting in 1500 / 62,5 = 24 images per second, or 24 fps.
That guy at the club who doesn't stop talking, and keeps looking around in between.
He was keeping looking back at far away, That big sister, she was his future's wife, Yao Yan. hahaha
please make more slow motion content like this... i can use this content to explain my trainees what really happen when you hit the ball to spin
Absolutely,i think those
Tq
The racket trajectory is closer to the racket angle than the stroke against topspin, so this has a bigger brushing component and therefore more spin. Could you shoot FH and BH loops and counterloops?
Thank you for the video. The stroke looks like a drive or counter hit, given the big difference between the racket angle and its trajectory. I'm surprised that despite this, the outgoing shot still has so much rotation. Could you shoot FH and BH loops and counterloops? This video and the other against underspin contrast with what I observe in super slowmotion videos of Chinese players. Their racket trajectories are much closer, if not almost matching the racket angle.
hey! awesome video! have a question: how did you estimate RPM? seems like for this kind of videos it might be great to use balls with dot marks to be able to calculate spin speed. UPD. oh, there's a dotted ball in your other vid ))
Actually, although not quite clearly visible on UA-cam, the ball does have dots. The original footage is darker and shows the dots. The video has been brightened for UA-cam to show the player better. But, yes: Dots are the most reliable and accurate way to calculate spin since we know the frame rate.
O.O this is good stuff
Excelente video Diego! Soy Ezequiel
Imagine how good Waldner would be if he could cut his rubbers decently!!!
I'm watching table tennis videos since decades and these Gilbert Cup videos still have the best lighting, angles and frame rate I ever saw. They are the pinnacle of table tennis recording.
What, you don't like the high side angle of WTT?? (major sarcasm if you can't tell)
@@jeffstevens9729 oh yes, pong style 2D table tennis, another simplification for the ignorant target viewer. LOL
